Wiltshire Estate Agents & Lettings

Wiltshire is a county in the South West of England, it’s landlocked and bordered by Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. It is possibly most famous for being home to Stonehenge, and other sites of pre-Roman archaeology. The Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age people built settlements on the hills that are dotted across Wiltshire. Stonehenge and Avebury are perhaps the most famous Neolithic sites in the UK.

What is it like to live in Wiltshire?

Quiet and beautiful villages with stunning views are aplenty in this county. It is somewhere that you need to be able to drive, as some of the towns are quite far apart, but public transport connections are good here too. You’ll find larger homes with acres of land for prices you simply couldn’t find in London or other larger cities/areas, or unique smaller homes, often with charming and long-lived history behind them.

A regular for film crews, many films are made with the Wiltshire landscape as a backdrop. Castle Combe saw War Horse and Stardust filmed on its cobbled streets lined with old cottages, while The National Trust preserves the village of Lacock for its outstanding architecture and natural beauty. This is also a county where local produce (especially ham) is held in high esteem, plus support of local businesses is far easier with smaller towns and villages offering unique shops and restaurants instead of larger chains.

Wiltshire’s property hotspots

Swindon and Salisbury are where you’ll find more modern properties and typical cityscapes, although they are still steeped in history and surrounded by countryside. Terraced houses and newer estates are affordable, with good transport links to schools and places of work.

Avebury is one of the more famous places to live, with its stone circle and other prehistoric sites, but this tiny village doesn’t often have properties available due to its size.

If you’re looking for similar vibes, Tisbury is the largest village in Wiltshire’s Nadder Valley. It sits within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village centre has lots of lovely independent shops and the countryside surrounding the village lends itself to great walks.
