Devon Estate Agents & Lettings

Devon is a beautiful stretch of the UK, bordered by Cornwall, Somerset, and Dorset. It’s popular for its coastline and surrounding countryside, with a high-volume of tourists in the warmer months. Devon is the only county in England with two separate coastlines and is close to Dartmoor National Park. It even has a slightly better climate than other UK coastlines, attracting more beach lovers and nature enthusiasts.

What is it like to live in Devon?

Devon has an excellent range of property types, in rural, coastal, and city locations. Some areas are naturally more expensive than others, but generally speaking, property in this area is affordable for most families and professionals, including those looking to retire here. Larger cities such as Plymouth and Exeter attract students, as both are university homes, and this means an active rental market is in place. Thanks to the attractive nature of the coastal regions for retirees, bungalows and smaller apartments are more readily available here too.

Devon is mostly served by A-roads, although the M5 north links Exeter with Bristol, Cheltenham, Worcester, and Birmingham and these cities themselves offer fantastic transport options for getting further afield.

Regular rail services to and from Exeter and Plymouth to major UK cities including London and Leeds are available, with even smaller areas such as Newton Abbot, Tiverton and Honiton with their own stations. Exeter has an international airport.

For families with school-age children, Devon offers some excellent choices, like St. Johns in Sidmouth that offers educational exchange programmes abroad in countries like South Africa or Italy. Trinity School in Teignmouth caters for ages 3-19 and has an enviable seaside location.

Devon’s property hotspots

Dartmoor offers rugged landscape and plenty of history for those that choose to live here. Ancient villages with unique properties are plentiful here.

For those wanting to live beside the sea, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are all great choices, with family homes and smaller apartment blocks surrounding seaside attractions including rock-pooling and even scuba diving.

Exeter is a hugely popular Roman-walled city, with a 15th Century cathedral and cobbled streets for those that love a location with history. Students are well-catered for as the University looms large in the city’s culture, making it a great place to expand your rental portfolio.
