Monmouthshire Estate Agents & Lettings
Monmouthshire is a ‘principal area’ in South East Wales, which is the equivalent of a county. Its largest town is Abergavenny, with other significant populations in Caldicot, Chepstow, Monmouth, Magor, and Usk. Monmouthshire borders Torfaen, Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, and Powys. Monmouthshire is well known for its fantastic food suppliers from surrounding farmland, with most of the fantastic places to eat sourcing local produce.
What is it like to live in Monmouthshire?
Dotted with farms and barn conversions, this is a picturesque place to live, even when you’re in the busier towns. There’s plenty of heritage here (think Roman ruins and medieval castles) as well as good schools and a strong range of independent shops and restaurants. It’s a little harder to stay connected thanks to the rural nature of the area, but most people move here for a slower pace to begin with.
Life here is easily filled with wonderful food and drink festivals and plenty of escapes into the surrounding countryside. Other notable events include regular racing fixtures at Chepstow Racecourse, Monmouthshire Food Festival, which is held twice a year at Caldicot Castle, Hoggin’ the Bridge, and the Severn Bridge Half Marathon.
Monmouthshire’s property hotspots
Chepstow overlooks the River Wye and even has a Norman castle. There’s a strong mix of property types here, but many are character-filled period properties, especially larger Georgian and Victorian types. Families love this area for proximity to Wye Valley.
Monmouth gives the best of town and country life, right on the site of three rivers and with a fantastic reputation for education. Culture is vibrant here with a theatre and Michelin star restaurant, as well as numerous annual festivals for food and music. Historic homes are available here, from 18th-century cottages and Georgian town houses to Victorian semis.
The cathedral city of Newport sits beside the River Usk yet has a cosmopolitan vibe with plenty of restaurants and shops to enjoy at the weekend. Here you are a half-hour drive from the Brecon Beacons National Park or the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
