Buckinghamshire Estate Agents & Lettings
Buckinghamshire (often called Bucks) is in the South East of England, bordering Greater London and Oxfordshire, as well as Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. A loop of the river Thames between Eaton and Henley lies along the county border with Berkshire, and these areas in particular are very popular with commuters. Quintessential English villages in the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, attract lovers of the outdoors and tourism is strong in the market town of Buckingham, with its outer villages providing great value for money for both buyers and renters. It is vital to know, however, that the town of Buckingham itself has no convenient station or rail line.
What is it like to live in Buckinghamshire?
Buckinghamshire has a good range of property types. Charming 17th century cottages and farmhouses can be found in rural settings and the villages of the Chilterns Hills, with the towns offering elegant Georgian and Victorian homes that are available to rent or buy. Average rents in Buckinghamshire (in 2020) stand at £1,250 per month, which is higher than most areas, but you can find cheaper options further out from the Greater London border and in the smaller, more isolated villages.
Across the county, primary schools are good, many rated outstanding, and there are 13 grammar schools for secondary education. Families choose to live here for the careful balance of rural life and urban access, as train lines go directly into Marylebone, so are convenient for that side of London. This is also a popular county for the active. Walking or cycling in the Chiltern Hills is a great way to explore, but the you can also try activities such as snow sports and indoor skydiving at Milton Keynes’ Xscape centre.
Buckinghamshire’s property hotspots
Milton Keynes is a business hotspot, around halfway between London and Birmingham for commuters. House prices are nearly always reasonable here too. Gerrards Cross, the Chalfonts, Beaconsfield and Amersham are all popular for their closeness to London, train services, and the M4. Here you will find the more traditional Buckinghamshire property types, built with local brick and flint.
There are numerous villages to choose from, but the more popular are Chesham, Great Missenden, Weston Turville, Haddenham, Cuddington, and Fulmer. Rural areas still maintain relatively good public transport, although you can also find more isolated villages should that be your desire, with stunning landscape backdrops.
