Felixstowe dates back to Roman times; the oldest part of the town is around the Church of St Peter and St Paul at Old Felixstowe.
Landguard Peninsula is home to the Grade I listed Fort which is believed to be one of the best-preserved coastal defences in England. These structures were constructed to protect the entrances to the rivers Orwell and Stour.
Felixstowe also is widely associated with the RAF for the development of seaplanes and flying boats and it was one of the first RAF stations in Britain.
